Botanical name: Atriplex hortensis
Red Spinach is a leaf vegetable that is also grown as an ornamental plant as the triangular, red leaves are very attractive.
Small obscure flowers match the colour of the leaves.
Leaves have a slightly salty, spinach flavour and are used fresh in salads or cooked in other dishes.
Growing Red Spinach
Tolerant of most soils but rich, moist, free-draining soils produce tender leaves.
Plants are frost tender.
Grows 1-2m high x 0.5m wide.
Prefers full sun.
Suitable for pots.
